Therme Group’s strategic partner Wund Holding, operating as ThermenGruppe Josef Wund, has unveiled plans for the creation of Germany’s largest wellbeing resort in Bad Vilbel, part of the Frankfurt Rhein-Main metropolitan area. It is the latest location to be announced as part of Therme Group’s global development programme, following planning approval for Therme Manchester in 2020.

Located on the banks of the Nidda river, the project builds on Therme Group and Wund Holding’s shared vision of creating the world’s most-advanced wellbeing resorts which address the vital modern-day need for accessible wellbeing for all.

Combining hundreds of water-based activities with wellbeing treatments, art, nature and technology, it brings a unique experience to the area. As much as creating a fun and enjoyable holiday at home, the focus is on benefiting the physical and mental health of all who visit.

The experience includes activities for children, adults and seniors with sports and leisure swimming and a family area with more than 30 waterslides. Expansive thermal and mineral pools sit alongside relaxation areas. Guests can enjoy delicious food with a focus on healthy options that the whole family will love. A full range of wellness activities are available with beautifully designed saunas and individual therapy rooms for personalised treatments.

The new facility will be home to a biodiverse ecosystem that includes more than 1,800 palm trees and thousands of other plants delivered with the support of Therme NAT, Therme Group’s specialist botanics company. As part of Therme Group’s wider commitment to the communities it serves, Therme NAT has begun a greening project in the town of Bad Vilbel. By introducing a variety of species including many trees as well as bee and butterfly friendly perennials and shrubs, Therme NAT is helping to improve Bad Vilbel’s urban biodiversity.

Immersive art and culture will be integrated in the project, elevating the experience beyond anything offered in a traditional leisure or attractions setting. Therme Art is working with some of the world’s leading artists, designers and architects to create new forms of sensorial spaces as part of a truly holistic wellbeing experience.

Continuing Therme Group’s commitment to sustainability, and alongside Therme Bucharest and Therme Manchester, the project is being planned, built and operated to LEED Platinum Standard. LEED is the foremost program for recognising best-in-class building strategies and practices in green construction, equivalent to a BREEAM Outstanding in the UK.

Construction is set to begin within a year, with opening scheduled for 2023. More than 1.3 million guests are forecast to visit each year.

“In a place long known for its healing waters, this wellbeing resort will help to revive a thermal bathing culture stretching back to the Romans’ arrival in the area almost two thousand years ago. Along with Therme Manchester and other worldwide projects, it will elevate our concept to a new level, furthering our aim to redefine wellbeing for communities worldwide.”

Robert Hanea, CEO and Chairman of Therme Group said.

“We have had a strong relationship with Therme Group for many years, which was formalised in February 2020 when we entered a far-reaching strategic partnership. This scheme builds on our shared ethos of ‘wellbeing for all’, creating a facility that will be accessible and inclusive and will bring profound health and wellbeing benefits to everyone who visits.”

Wund Holding Managing Director Edelfried Balle added.
